Visits to iTunes up 413 per cent
Visits to the iTunes were up by 413 per cent on Christmas Day this year, compared to the same day in 2005.
The Hitwise market research also found that the market share of visits to the Apple Store climbed 110 per cent on Christmas Day and was the fourth most visited website.
According to Pocket Lint, the iTunes traffic was driven by new iPod owners and people who received iTunes gift certificates as presents.
Bill Tancer, general manager of global research at Hitwise, said: "For the third holiday season in a row, the iPod has been the must-have Christmas gift.
"Competitive offerings have not yet succeeded in capturing the attention of music listeners and the surge in visits to the Apple Store shows that iPod owners are also engaged in filling and accessorising their new devices."
Visits to Microsoft's Zune website were outnumbered by those to iTunes by 30 to 1.
The survey found that Amazon was the most visited website.

Meanwhile, missed calls are tracked so that the user can access the last nine numbers and the device also has a built-in radio.

Jamo i300 available for iPod
Jamo, a Danish speaker manufacturer, has created a 2.1 surround set complete with iPod docking station.
Made up of a large subwoofer and two smaller satellites, the Jamo i300 is available in a choice of black or white.
The system charges the iPod while it is playing and is fitted with two auxiliary inputs – one on its rear panel and one on the subwoofer.
Pocket Lint said: "We especially liked that you can connect the speakers to your computer and share the sound with the iPod rather than having one or the other."
The speakers supplied with the system are magnetically-shielded boxes, finished in the same white or black as the subwoofer.
Offering 150-watt high efficiency class D digital amplifier, the subwoofer powers a 6.5-inch bass driver.
The dock has a mute button and a large volume knob that controls both the bass level and the main volume.
A long-range, radio frequency remote control is also included.

It can also be linked to other video sources, consoles, DVD players and computers.
AV Review said: "Anybody who's actually tried to watch a film on their iPod will tell you it just isn't worth it – through the squinting and grimacing there's little pleasure to be gained watching videos on such a small screen, crisp and clear as it may be."
The iProjector is set to debut at CES in January, with the price yet to be announced.

iPod 'will dominate MP3 market' this Christmas
The iPod will continue to dominate the MP3 player market, despite the launch of the Microsoft Zune, according to analysts.
While Microsoft expects to sell one million devices between now and June, Apple will sell 25 times that amount with its iPod range.
Ross Rubin, director of market research firm NPD, told Netmusic Countdown: "It would take an unprecedented act of nature for the Zune to outsell the iPod this holiday season."
Tim Deal of Pike & Fischer added that while the Zune's wireless-sharing feature "differentiates" it from the iPod, it will take time for the group to build up a consumer base.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is launching an advertising campaign including television, outdoor, print and online adverts and promotions, aimed at 18 to 28-year-olds.
Mr Rubin commented that the group is right to concentrate on distancing itself from the market leader instead of competing with the same features.

iPods in space
Images beamed down from the Zvezda Service Module of the International Space Station reveal that iPods have made it into space.
While pictures show European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Reiter, expedition 14 flight engineer, working on new experiments, closer inspection shows that an iPod has been attached to a Belkin battery pack near by, reports SpaceRef.com.
However, iPods have been in space before with Anousheh Ansari, the first female private space explorer, reporting in her blog that she used the device while on her recent mission into space, the Age reports.
"I was able to locate my iPod in my bag and I was a happy camper … I put on my headphones and went to sleep in my Bat sack," she remarked.
The experiments being undertaken by the astronauts aboard the space station are to identify the effect weightlessness has on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems of the crew members.

Griffin updates iPod accessories for new nano
Griffin Technology has updated its range of iPod accessories for the new second-generation iPod nano.
The disko nano polycarbonate case has been altered to include a ring of coloured lights around the Click Wheel opening, which flash lights and patterns in response to any movement sensed.
Available at a cost of $29.99 (£15.30), the new case comes with its own batteries to avoid shortening the lifespan of the nano between charges.
Alternatively, iPod nano users can now purchase a transparent iClear case from the group, keeping their nano well-protected and scratch-free.
The group said: "iClear's transparent and unobtrusive design protects the iPod with a tough, polycarbonate two-piece shell that is strong enough to take the daily abuse of active lifestyles."
In addition to guarding the device against damage, the device provides total access to the iPod's control wheel, audio jack, on switch, USB port and LED.
The iClear retails at $19.99 (£10.19).

Tunewear said: "Tetran is not only a fun earbud cable winder but can also be used for a relaxing massage by squeezing Tetran in the palm of your hand.

New hard drive could expand iPod capacity
A new hard drive from Toshiba may be used to increase the iPod's capacity to 100 gigabytes.
The 1.8-inch, 100 gigabyte hard drive is designed for mobile computing and is claimed to have the highest capacity available in the compact form.
Although Apple has refused to comment, it has been reported that the device could increase iPod capacity from holding 20,000 songs to holding 25,000 songs.
Apple currently uses Toshiba drives in its higher-end iPods and has in the past been the first to pick up the latest models from the group.
The drive is around the same size as a PC card and is commonly used in music players such as the iPod and in compact laptops.
It has been reported by Computerworld that Toshiba will begin to supply the drives to companies in January 2007, to be integrated into their products.
The drive will be showcased at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas from January 8th to 11th.

Guitar-shaped stands to prop up iPods
Westshore Craftworks has developed a selection of wooden and faux-stone stands, especially for propping up the iPod.
Ranging from the Walnut iPod Stand/Dock Cover for the iPod Photo, to the guitar-shaped G2 Natural iPod Stand/Dock Cover for the iPod Video, there is something for every iPod user.
The stands allow access to all vital ports, so the user can activate the iPod while it is upright.
Shiny Shiny said: "iDocks are fancy wooden iPod stands designed to cover your iDock and fancy the place up a bit."
If there is no iDock with the iPod, the group will send a MockDock with the base, so that the "iDockless" can have its own stand.
Prices range from $19.95 (£10.08) for the Oak and Purpleheart stands, to $29.95 (£15) for the Natural Flame Maple and $34.95 (£17.66) for the guitar-style G2 Honey Burst and G1 Tobacco Burst stands.

Apple and Apple "may sign deal"
The remaining Beatles may soon resolve a lifetime of issues with Apple Computer, when their label Apple Corps enters an exclusive contract with iTunes.
Fortune magazine reported that EMI Records has been mediating between the two companies to make the Beatles' music available on iTunes – leading the way for a Beatles-branded iPod.
Apple Corps and Apple Computer have been in legal tussles since the 1970s, due to the Apple tag.
Jupiter Research analyst, Michael Gartenberg, said: "The Beatles have been the Holy Grail of digital downloads.
"It's not surprising that Apple would go after a deal with them, no matter what legal issues they had in the past – and for the Beatles to sign with someone else would be silly, since iPod is the dominant platform."
If the deal goes ahead, both the new album – Love – and the Beatles' back catalogue could be available to download.
